TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s former regional political director for his re-election campaign is among those being subpoenaed in a widening political payback investigation.
The Associated Press has learned that Matt Mowers was among 20 people and organizations to be issued a subpoena Thursday as part of the state legislative investigation.
Mowers’ subpoena seeks any emails and text messages he exchanged regarding a plot to shut down lanes to the George Washington Bridge, creating traffic gridlock near Fort Lee.
The subpoena list will not be made public until everyone is served, probably Friday.
But the New Hampshire GOP, where Mowers recently started work as executive director, released a statement Thursday night saying Mowers had been subpoenaed and offering support for him.
