WINNIPEG – City crews aren’t wasting any time tackling this latest snowfall.
Around 300 pieces of equipment are out plowing and sanding streets throughout Winnipeg Wednesday.
If the temperature warms up during the day salting trucks will hit the road.
The city expects to the majority of the routes cleared before the temperature significantly falls overnight. Only about 5 cm are expected in the city but high winds are causing drifting in some areas.
Jim Berezowsky, Winnipeg’s manager of streets maintenance, is optimistic freezing rain won’t fall in city limits but said drivers should be cautious on the roads.
“Give yourself some extra time to get home,” he said.
Crews are still working on clearing sidewalks for the last major snow fall.
Berezowsky didn’t rule out a residential plow operation or have an estimate of how much this clean up will cost.
