Fatal crash closes stretch of Portage Avenue: police

Winnipeg Police say one person is dead after a pick-up hit a pedestrian, a bus shelter, another vehicle, a hydro pole and finally a gas station. And power in the area remains out as crews work to fix the pole that was damaged.

A stretch of Portage Avenue was closed Friday morning due to a crash near the intersection of Portage and Bedson Street that resulted in the death of one person.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service told 680 CJOB person was declared dead on-scene, while three others were taken to hospital. As of Friday afternoon, all three were listed in stable condition.

Police said a Ford F150 was heading east down Portage when it crashed into a pedestrian and a bus shelter, with another vehicle, a Hydro pole, and a gas station also sustaining damage in the incident.
