Flu considered “possible” cause of death in one case: province

Provincial health officials say a “typical” flu season is underway, with 45 confirmed cases of the disease so far.

Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer, Dr. Michael Routledge, gave an update of the influenza situation late Thursday.

Routledge says 39 of the confirmed cases are H1N1, while the rest are Influenza B. No deaths have been directly linked to the flu so far in Manitoba, Routledge said.  But he says there has been a death where influenza is being considered as one of the possible causes – – part of a “differential diagnosis”.

He would not confirm an investigation of the death of a child, after reports a boy who passed away recently had the H1N1 flu present in his lungs.
