The search for a missing 59-year-old woman in an East Sooke park has been suspended.

Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Wright says although they will never stop looking, there will be no more organized searches.

Robin (whose family does not want her last name released), was reported missing last Thursday when she didn’t return home from a hike. She is familiar with the park and was a volunteer member with the Juan de Fuca search and rescue team for 10 years.

Robin’s vehicle was parked in the parking lot of the park, with her cell phone inside.

Wright says despite extensive searches, with dozens of people who knew Robin, they found nothing. “It’s just a mystery,” he says.

“Her family is just devastated, they don’t know what to do, where to turn,” adds Wright.

Search and Rescue will still be conducting training exercises in the park on weekends and will continue to look for Robin.

“The majority of the people looking for her knew her,” says Wright. “They really wanted to bring her home.”
