Edmonton – The latest seasonal parking ban ended on the weekend, but Edmonton motorists will still have to be aware of where they park their vehicles.

The City of Edmonton began its targeted parking ban Monday morning, as crews began removing windrows from collector/bus routes.

The targeted parking bans will be in effect during specific times and on specific collector/bus routes where windrows are being removed.

“We put temporary no parking signs at least one day before, usually two or three days beforehand, telling people not to park. These signs say no parking Monday to Friday,” explained Rob Dunford, Director of Roadway Maintenance.

The signs will be removed as soon as crews are finished working in an area.

Vehicles that are parked on designated roads where the removal is taking place could be ticketed and towed.

“It’s absolutely necessary to get the vehicles out of the way so we can remove the windrows of snow,” said Dunford.

The City is asking motorists to drive with caution around crews.

“There are flag people on site to direct traffic. Please adhere to the flagman’s directions. Again, it’s a matter of caution around them,” Dunford requested.

The removal of windrows will take about three weeks. Dunford estimates crews will remove approximately 600,000 cubic meters of snow during that period.

“People are used to the standard gravel truck. It’s about 12 cubic meters, so you’re talking a lot of truck loads,” explained Dunford.

The schedule of targeted parking bans can be viewed on the City of Edmonton’s website.
