Jay Gamble has lived in Lethbridge’s southside for nearly twenty years. When his partner woke up on Friday morning, she noticed damage to their TV, so the couple went out to buy a new one.
But when they got home, the pair noticed something more.
“When we were coming back in, my partner noticed the hole in the window in the front and then we found the hole in the back of the TV as well,” said Gamble.
“So then that’s when we phoned the police.”
Lethbridge police have confirmed it is actively investigating the careless discharge of a firearm after a bullet hole was located in Gamble’s home.
Police said in a news release several witnesses reported hearing a loud bang or pop between midnight and 1 a.m. after the couple had gone to sleep.
Gamble said he has no idea what happened.
“Even though police don’t think it’s targeted, it’s still a little unnerving to find a bullet in your home,” he said.
“I can’t imagine it would be an accidental firing of a gun, but I would imagine someone — maybe hopefully just kids messing around — getting into mischief as opposed to something a little more nefarious.”
Though he hopes this was an isolated incident, Gamble said he plans to invest in some surveillance cameras.
“I still think it’s a safe and great neighbourhood,” he said.
“I hope it’s not something that people get overly concerned about or start vilifying the city or the area.”
Police are asking anyone in the area with CCTV to check their camera footage on July 12 between midnight and 1 a.m.
Any suspicious people or activity captured in the footage should be reported by calling Lethbridge police.
