SYDNEY, N.S. – A jury has begun hearing evidence in the case of a man charged with assault causing bodily harm to an off-duty Cape Breton Regional Police officer.
Donald James Campbell, 31, of Sydney is alleged to have assaulted Const. Wade Lavin outside a bar in the early morning hours of June 12, 2008.
The first witness Wednesday was Const. Roland Morrison of the regional police forensic identification unit.
Morrison testified about two booklets of photographs he was instructed to take, including 14 pictures of Lavin in the hospital.
He described the injuries to Lavin’s face that included a swollen right eye, a cut above his right eye and a cut to his lip.
The trial continues today in Sydney.
