Death of senior found severely injured near Fairhaven School deemed homicide

A 66-year-old man has died after being found injured near Fairhaven School in Saskatoon and police have deemed his death a homicide.

Police presence shut down Fairhaven School early Wednesday.

Parents were notified through Edsby that the school wouldn’t be open because the area needed to be cleared for police to investigate.

Saskatoon Public Schools confirmed the school closure but couldn’t comment further.

Saskatoon police said the man was injured in the area and was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later died.

Officers said there isn’t believed to be a threat to public safety.

“Investigators in the Major Crime Section are asking residents living in the area of Hull Crescent (facing the school), Forrester Road, Olmstead Road, Cooper Way and Cooper Crescent to review any security cameras on their properties for signs of suspicious activity between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Residents are also asked to check their yards and disposal bins for discarded evidence that may be relevant to the investigation,” a police statement said.

The senior’s death is considered Saskatoon’s 11th homicide of the year.
