23-year-old Regina woman charged after pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle

Police have laid charges against a 23-year-old woman following a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian who succumbed to his injuries.

On Monday afternoon, officers were sent to the intersection of Robinson Street and 7th Avenue for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

“Police and EMS arrived and located the injured adult male, who had succumbed to injury and was pronounced deceased,” police stated in a release. “Investigation determined the victim was legally crossing the street on a marked pedestrian crosswalk in a 30 km/h school zone and was struck by the vehicle which was travelling at a high rate of speed.”

Police stated the driver of the vehicle was found to be impaired.

Shauntae Sunkawasti of Regina has been charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving exceeding .08 and dangerous driving causing death.

The accused makes her first appearance on these charges in provincial court Tuesday afternoon.
