Inmate who escaped from minimum-security facility in Edmonton recaptured

The Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) said an inmate who had been on the lam for several days was recaptured Wednesday afternoon.

CSC said Eugenia Herman was arrested around 1:30 p.m. by Edmonton police, with the assistance of Buffalo Sage Wellness House.

Herman had been unlawfully at large from Buffalo Sage Wellness House since April 27.

Native Counselling Services of Alberta and the CSC are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Herman’s escape.

Staff at the Buffalo Sage Wellness House, said  the 31-year-old was not accounted for Saturday.

According to CSC, Native Counselling Services of Alberta immediately contacted the Edmonton Police Service and a warrant for the inmate’s arrest was issued.

CSC said Herman has been serving a sentence of two years for possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, among other charges.
