Saskatoon police had roads blocked on the University of Saskatchewan campus Tuesday morning after a four-car pile-up occurred on College Drive.
Police said the collision happened at College Drive and Wiggins Avenue North and a 22-year-old woman was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
A 76-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Saskatoon Fire Department confirmed four vehicles were involved in a crash.
All traffic restrictions that were in place have been lifted.
A road safety audit was launched for the area after cyclist Natasha Fox was struck by a truck and killed at the same intersection nearly one year ago.
The city of Saskatoon said its findings and recommendations will be discussed at a regular council meeting on April 24.
“It is premature to conclude anything from today’s vehicle collision until the Saskatoon Police Service have completed their investigation,” read a statement from the city.
Several recommendations from were already presented at a Standing Policy Committee on Transportation meeting on April 2 including curb reductions, installing bike boxes and considering modified driving lanes.
There was also a recommendation specific to exclusive pedestrian walkways which would stop all vehicle movement, allowing pedestrians to cross in any direction at the intersection including diagonally.
