Arson investigators are probing the cause of a garage fire in the city’s southeast that claimed the life of a man in his 50s.
The fire department was called to the blaze shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday. It started in the garage of a home in the 2000 block of Cottonwood Crescent S.E.

When crews arrived, the structure was fully involved.
“Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack to control the fire,” the fire department said in a news release.
While fighting the flames, a search of the interior was done and a man was discovered on the floor of the garage, unconscious.
He was pulled from the burning building and rushed to hospital, but police confirmed the man did not survive.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Acting police duty inspector Dean Nichol said arson investigators were called in as a matter of routine because someone died.
The name of the victim was not released.
