Edmonton has been preparing for months, and now the Grey Cup festival and lead-up to Sunday’s game is here.
Festivities start at 5:30 on Wednesday evening with the Rexall Kick Off Party at Churchill Square. This year’s Grey Cup Festival is called Hot to Huddle and will feature a zip line going through Churchill Square, a mini football field in front of city hall and many more family events and activities. The festival runs through to game day on Sunday.
Close to 900 students got the chance to check out the 20,000 foot Huddledome on Wednesday before the festival kicked off. The heated tent is at the heart of festival celebrations in Churchill Square, and features a variety of family friendly activities.
In addition to the Huddledome, the festival features a zipline that was a major attractions at last winter’s Olympics when it ran through downtown Vancouver. People waited all day for a ride. Now the attraction is in Churchill Square, a ride eighty feet high and more than five hundred feet long.
To check it out for yourself from Thursday to Sunday you can stand in line to get a wristband for one of the daily slots. Wristbands will be given out a few times a day.
All of the festival activities are free of charge.
Global Edmonton will be broadcasting live with a special On the Road version of the News Hour from the Hot to Huddle festival on Thursday, November 25th.
