WATCH: NASA super-robot revealed

TORONTO – Science fiction is becoming science reality.

NASA has entered into the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Robotics Challenge, with a life-like robot named Valkyrie.

The robot is almost two metres tall, weighing about 125 kilograms.

The competition is designed to find a robot that would be able to assist in a disaster area.

There have been several entries, most notably Atlas, designed by robotics leader Boston Dynamics.

NASA’s involvement seems like a no-brainer: the space agency hopes to put people on Mars one day, but it will likely need to send robots to the surface first.

There is no word on whether or not the robot is programmed with the Three Laws of Robotics.

Let’s hope so.
