The heavy snow blanketing B.C.’s South Coast affected flights to and from Vancouver International Airport on Wednesday.
Travellers were urged to check the status of their airline and flight before heading to the airport but dozens of flights have been cancelled or delayed by hours on end.
Officials at the airport said teams are actively clearing snow and ice from runways and taxiways and operating the de-icing facilities but there will be fewer flights able to arrive and depart due to the conditions.
The airport experienced its 10th snowiest day on record, with 25 centimetres falling as of 7 p.m.
About 80 per cent of scheduled flights are operating, YVR officials said in an update.
While there are a number of cancellations, many have been put in place proactively by our airline partners as we manage aircraft movement at YVR to the extent current weather systems will allow.
