According to Transport Canada, the wreckage was found on Nov. 3.

Coordinates listed the location between Kamloops and Monte Lake, but police said the location was 45 minutes north of Kamloops, in the remote area of Knouff Lake, and that the plane was abandoned.

“The Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded and verified the wreckage was at least 20 to 25 years old,” said Transport Canada, adding no registration or identifying marks are visible.

The province’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) were also notified of the wreckage.

In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, police said a hunter in the area spotted a piece of an airplane in the distance and notified Barriere RCMP.

“Upon closer inspection, the hunter observed it to be an airplane with no motor, wings, doors, seats, or propeller. Only the fuselage remained. Additionally, no registration numbers were attached,” said the RCMP.

“The plane’s fuselage was likely sitting at the location for over two decades.”

Police also said their investigation confirmed that no one was located within the fuselage, and that no missing airplanes have been reported.

“The TSB has been made aware of the wreckage being found and we have been in contact with the Kamloops RCMP,” said the safety board.

“We have not identified which aircraft it was, and we are in contact with various sources to identify it, including the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.”
