Calgarians use social media to hash out the storm with #yyc

With Calgary expected to be blanketed by 15 to 30 centimetres of snow by Tuesday morning, Calgarians will likely to find themselves confined to their living rooms for the near future.

Especially if employers heed Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s plea to allow employees to work from home tomorrow.

Driving conditions have worsened to the point that the TransCanada highway has been forced to close down, and multiple vehicle collisions have been reported. But reminiscent of last summer’s devastating flood Calgarians are turning to social media, especially the hash tag #yyc,  to keep their spirits up and the lines of communication open.

Some people weren’t happy with the sudden blast of winter weather.

Others hoped the storm clouds would have a silver lining.

It wasn’t long before super heroes were called in.

Some people were just arriving.

Others probably weren’t going anywhere for a while.

Some gave thanks for sports.

Others saw strange things in the snow.

This Good Samaritan imparted some words of wisdom:

And this may be the final straw in this man’s apparent on-again, off-again relationship with the city.

While at least one person seems eager to get outside.

Others just want to make it home safely.

This person would probably be pretty grateful for a therapeutic massage right about now.

It’s also a great time to get into the holiday spirit.

And spend time with your loved ones.

But if there’s one thing that snow storms make better, it’s time lapse videos.
