Who has the coldest job? City of Calgary workers called out to repair a water main break think they do, hands down.
“We are always outside in extreme weather,” says city water supervisor Frank Sarro.
Crew members spent hours in blowing and frigid temperatures Monday at the site of a water main break on 14 Street N.W., doing what’s necessary to get the water back on.

“There are quite a few homeowners out here, quite a few businesses, but again this is our job and this is what we do,” says Sarro. “We take pride- we want to get people back on water because I know what it’s like to be without water.”
Workers took turns repairing the break in an attempt to keep warm and their efforts didn’t go unnoticed.
“I appreciate they are out working – especially in these conditions,” says one Kensington resident. “I know it’s nasty out.”
Crews were hoping to repair the break in time for people to have a hot shower Monday evening, but if not, they’ll be back at the scene, and on the job, on Tuesday.
