EDMONTON – Nearly the entire province is under some type of winter storm warning Sunday, including the Capital Region.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the City of Edmonton and surrounding areas.
An “intense winter storm” will move through Alberta Sunday and Monday and is expected to bring with it anywhere between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow.
“Today should not be a bad day, actually,” Global Weather Specialist Kevin O’Connell said Sunday morning. “Temperature-wise, condition-wise the majority of the day today should be quite nice. It’s probably around supper time or just after supper time where we’re going to see some snow. Winds will pick up as well.”
Strong north winds — with gusts up to 50 km/h — are expected to bring in Arctic air overnight Sunday and into Monday. Wind chill values will dip to the minus 20 degree Celsius region.
“As of tomorrow (Monday) we’ll start to see those temperatures fall significantly and stay pretty cold for the rest of the week,” O’Connell explained.

In anticipation of Monday’s storm, Edmonton Public Schools is warning students and parents of delays in yellow bus services. Parents are asked to have alternate arrangements in place for their children in case the bus is late or does not arrive.

All Edmonton Public Schools will be open Monday.

Much of southern Alberta is under a blizzard warning, including the City of Calgary.
Environment Canada says blizzard conditions are expected to develop Sunday and into Monday.
Winds gusting up to 60 km/h will produce blizzard conditions in areas east of the foothills. And anywhere between 10 and 30 centimetres of snow is expected to fall.

Conditions throughout Alberta are expected to improve by Tuesday. However, temperatures will remain very cold.
