Intricate Arrangements: Connotations in Collage brings together two artists – Amy J. Dyck and Monique Motut-Firth – whose art practices utilize collage to create complex systems. In scientific terms, examples of a complex system include social networks, cities, the human brain, or even the entire universe. The artworks in this exhibition represent complex internal and external systems. Amy collages figurative paintings together to depict the complexity of the bodily system and the human condition. Monique recombines images into new machines, vistas and systems of visual culture. Through a process of intricate arrangement, collected image fragments take on new meanings and deeper connotations.
