About Alzheimer Society Calgary

The Alzheimer Society of Calgary is a local non-profit organization. For thousands of local families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, this is where community, insight and empowerment begin. They work to ensure that people impacted by dementia have access to high quality education, care and support throughout their journey of impact. Their Mission

To enable local people impacted by dementia to live life well and build the capacity of the community to support and care for them.

Some Dementia Facts:

  1. 17,000 people are living with dementia in Calgary and area
  2. The numbers are expected to double within the next 10 years
  3. For each person with a diagnosis, a further 10-12 people are directly impacted as a result
  4. About half a million people are living with dementia in Canada
  5. Alzheimer’s disease is one type of dementia, and the most common, accounting for about 60% of cases of dementia

Alzheimer Awareness Month

January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and there are a number of special events going on. Alzheimer Calgary’s focus is to bring self care and educational tools to the local dementia community in a way that makes it free, fun, easy to participate, and gives people one more thing in their toolbox to improve their quality of life at home.
