Premiered in 1946 and based on Elmer Rice’s Pulitzer-winning play by the same name, Kurt Weill’s Street Scene innovatively merged the genres of American musical theatre and European opera, instantly becoming a beloved and unique American classic. In part a story of romance and a story of an affair escalating into tragedy, this highly demanding opera, both musically and dramatically, is brought to life by the singers of Opera McGill and the musicians of the MGSO under the direction of stage director Patrick Hansen and conductor Brian DeMaris. Join us in the beautiful Ludger-Duvernay Hall of Monument National for three exciting days of music, drama, and performance!
