Tickets ($25-30): https://www.mymusicfriends.com/concert/75 Distinguished pianist Libby Yu will make her most dramatic appearance yet in our series, collaborating with the Arietta String Quartet to present a chamber version of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor! The performers will also present a variety of shorter works separately, including the heartfelt Cavatina from Beethoven’s late String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 130, Hugo Wolf’s Italian Serenade, and the familiar “Heroic” Polonaise by Chopin. With the generous support of Loewen Piano House, Libby will once again be performing on the spectacular Bösendorfer concert grand (built in Vienna) at the Loewen Piano House’s Bösendorfer Hall in Richmond. She began her early studies with Phyllis Taylor and Edward Parker and then studied extensively with Lee Kum-Sing at both the Vancouver Academy of Music and at the University of British Columbia, where she earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance. Libby captured the First Prize of the 27th CBC Radio National Competition for Young Performers and Second Place in the Eckhardt-Gramatte Competition for Canadian Music.  She came to international recognition when she was awarded a Diploma of Honour at the 13th International Frederic Chopin Competition held in Warsaw, Poland. 
Arietta Quartet, string quartet Each member of the Arietta Quartet enjoys a life in music. Violinists Max Ngai studied at the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and at Indiana University, while Luiza Nelepcu both attended and taught at George Enescu Music High School and graduated from the National University of Music Bucharest. Frances Dodd, violist and librarian at Simon Fraser University, studied with Philippe Etter and Ian Hampton of the renowned Purcell String Quartet. Judy Lou, cellist, earned her bachelor and master of music degrees from the University of British Columbia under the celebrated professor Eric Wilson. Max, Luiza, and Judy teach at several schools in the Lower Mainland including the Langley Community Music School, Abbotsford Community Music School, Guildford School of Music and Dance, and the Vancouver Music Gallery. The four meet weekly to explore the works they love.
