Opening Reception: Saturday, Sept 7, 2019 from 2-4 PM The collaborative artworks of Metis artists Lisa Shepherd and Kristi Bridgeman reveal stories, stylistic markers and stunning beadwork designs that are the legacy of their common relative, Suzette (Chalifoux) Swift. Lisa Shepherd is well known in the Maple Ridge community for her exquisite beadwork. She is also recognized as a knowledge carrier amongst the Metis in the region. Based in Victoria, BC, Lisa’s cousin Kristi Bridgeman is a highly successful artist and illustrator who has already won considerable recognition for her book illustrations and other artwork, some of which is inspired by her Metis ancestry. Having only discovered they were cousins quite recently, the distinctive styles of each of these women are beautifully integrated in the collection that forms the central focus of the exhibition, Forget-Me-Not, Metis Rose: The Far West.
