The Philippine Consul General of Vancouver in partnership with ABS-CBN, ACAT (Anyone Can Act Theatre), and “100 Filipino Film Series” presents A Century of Filipino Films. This is a free three-day event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first Filipino-produced film, “Dalagang Bukid” as well as celebrating “Linggo ng Wika” (The Philippines’ National Language Week) and the honouring of Mel Tobias (Filipino-Canadian movie/art critic) by the city of Vancouver. The films chosen are Tanging Yaman (Cherished Treasure) showing August 6th 5:30pm at Pacific Cinematheque, Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit (I Will Wait for You in Heaven) showing August 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, and Anak (Child) showing August 25 at 5:30pm at the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. The movies chosen emphasize Filipino cultural values, the beauty of the Motherland, and other film-making merits. All movies are shown with English subtitles.
