“We’ve Chosen to Live Lives Less Ordinary” – Bonnie Parker (Bonnie & Clyde by Adam Peck) You might think you know the legend of Bonnie & Clyde, two star-crossed outlaws on an epic crime spree through the heartland of America, gunned down in their prime. A myth branded into the tapestry of the 20th century. But theirs was not a story of glamour and gun fights. It was a tragedy of lives failed by the political and financial institutions of the time, desperate to break the fates that they were born into. Playwright Adam Peck’s adaptation of this story dispels the mythology we have perpetuated and gives an intimate glimpse into the final hours of one of the world’s most legendary crime duos. His poetic and visceral dialog weaves a story of regret, hope and ultimately heartbreak. “It is fascinating to see how the story of Bonnie & Clyde holds relevance today.” says Directer (and Vancouver Fringe newcomer) Larisse Campbell. “Not only are people still fascinated by their story today as they were 80 years ago, but this interpretation of the story truly highlights their desire for fame and attention, and for the risks they took to carve out their own place in the world. Clyde struggles to find a place in a society that he believes is rigged against him and Bonnie is no different from people on social media desperate for a ‘like’ or follow, as she just wants to be remembered and loved and is willing to do whatever it takes to be so”.
