Looking Forward to a Winter Warm-Up with Soupfest 2018!
Presented by Living Rock Youth Centre.
HAMILTON, ON – January 8th, 2018 – As the New Year begins; the excitement for Living Rock’s Soupfest 2018 is starting to heat up! Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 will mark the 16th annual fundraising event to stir-up support for youth. Living Rock has been engaging, encouraging and equipping youth for 32 years; through supports and programs that meet immediate needs in addition to providing training and mentorship.
This year’s line-up has already been created to include 25 local restaurants and their creative chefs. All of whom are in the process of trying to create one soup recipe, great enough to stir-away the rest of the competition.
One local restaurant, on the other hand, wanted to approach Soupfest 2018 with a different attitude. The Burnt Tongue & Living Rock are collaborating to support youth in a unique way this year. Rather than competing with their own soup, The Burnt Tongue has created a hands-on workshop to help prepare the youth from Living Rock to create their own soup for Soupfest!
The Six – Week program was coined by Leo Tsangarakis, part-owner of The Burnt Tongue. He approached Living Rock to offer youth the opportunity to be mentored through a weekly, six week workshop in soup making, presentation and customer service. All of this effort will prepare youth in making a soup for Soupfest. Most importantly though, to create experience and learning that can be taken into the workforce. Leo and his business partner, Dan, have dedicated their own personal time, key staff & resources to help create these workshops.
The Burnt Tongue is a local restaurant serving specialty soups. Their rotating menu & two locations make them the best mentors for the next handful of weeks. Former competitors and award holders from Soupfest past, Leo & Dan wanted to offer their unique skills to impact the community. The community-driven spirit continue with the pledged support of produce donations from Buttrum’s Farm. Thanks Gary & family!
Although the youth created soup will not be in the competition, it will be available to enjoy at Soupfest for a small donation. Living Rock Youth Centre & The Burnt Tongue look forward to seeing the amazing results created by the collaboration.
Tickets can be purchased at Living Rock – 30 Wilson
