DJD invites people with Parkinson’s disease to enjoy weekly dance classes. Based on a simple principal—dancing is good for us—Decidedly Jazz Danceworks has pioneered a program for those living with Parkinson’s disease. Launched in 2013 as a pilot project, Dancing Parkinson’s YYC provides dance classes to people with Parkinson’s disease and their spouses, friends or care partners. Using live musical accompaniment, the program focuses on rhythm, body awareness, motor learning, and socializing. Created thanks to a partnership between DJD, Calgary Parkinson’s Research Initiative, the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the Rozsa Foundation the classes have proven to be an uplifting and restorative experience for participants. The fall program runs each Tuesday beginning on September 19, 2017 at the DJD Dance Centre (111 12th Ave. SE). Two levels of classes available: Level 2 12:45 – 1:45 PM Level 1 2:00 – 3:00 PM Unlimited classes are available for $50 per person and trial classes are available.
