The SMC concert will feature over 75 choristers, accompanied by pianist Chad Linsley and the SMC string ensemble, comprised of young professional musicians. The children will perform songs from the classical music tradition in French, English, Abenaki, Latin, German, Spanish, Creole and Maori. The evening will also feature a performance by Choeur des enfants de Montréal and Adleisia, a young adult women’s vocal ensemble co-directed by Virginie Pacheco and Amelia McMahon. The goal of Sing Montréal Chante is to address one of the imbalances that children from lower socio-economic groups face by giving them access to music education. There are no auditions. This program is free to schools. Working with our highly-trained music tutors over a period of thirteen weeks, the children from grades 5 – 6 develop musical skills, discover songs from other countries and languages and learn to perform with confidence. Tickets are 10$ at the door, general admission.
