Tree Trust is delighted to invite citizens from across Ontario to nominate a treasured tree to be crowned as this year’s “Tree of the Year”.

Do you have a favorite tree that holds a special place in your heart? Whether it’s a towering oak in your backyard, a graceful willow by the river, or a majestic maple lining your street, we want to hear your stories and nominations!

The contest aims to highlight the beauty, diversity, and significance of trees in our communities.

Through this contest we discover all kinds of trees underscoring the diversity of trees in our urban canopy.

To nominate a tree, please submit a photo along with up to 30 words describing why it deserves to be crowned Ontario’s “Tree of the Year.” Three trees will be selected by a panel of judges and honoured in September. First place contestant will win $500, second place will receive $250 and third place will receive $100.

To submit your tree’s nomination, please visit treetrust.ca or email your submission to PPalmer@treetrust.ca with a high quality photo, your name, the tree species, address or location of the tree and up to 30 words describing its significance.

Contest closes on Friday August 15 and winners will be announced in mid-September.

The Tree of the Year is a chance for you to showcase a tree that you treasure and tell us why it is important to you and your community.

Thank you to our volunteer judges: Judy Maddren, M.S.M. and Retired CBC Radio Journalist; Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Ontario Green Party and MPP for Guelph; Paul Zammit – Instructor, School of Environment and Horticulture; Terry Schwan, Professional Forester and Board of Directors, Forest History Ontario
