Summerland to host Big Band Extravaganza

It’s not common for big bands to perform these days.
But this month, the Okanagan is in for a treat with four big bands posed to play in Summerland on June 22.
Each band will perform just shy of an hour before the next band plays, with 15 to 20 minutes between each new set.
Below is the lineup.
12 p.m.: South Okanagan Big Band (Summerland)
1:15 p.m.: Okanagan Valley Big Band (Vernon)
2:30 p.m.: Lake Country Big Band (Lake Country)
3:45 p.m.: Thursday Night Jazz Band (Penticton)
Each band has the standard big band configuration of five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, and a rhythm section plus singers.
Admission is free, but the bands are on a mission to help raise funds for the Summerland Community Centre by “passing around the hat.”
Bring your lawn chairs and some refreshments, and come enjoy the music for a great afternoon!
In case the weather does not cooperate, the event will take place indoors at the Summerland Community Centre.
