Nine Vancouver organists present an eclectic programme of music on the mighty three-manual Casavant Frères organ at St James’ Anglican Church. This annual by-donation event, presented in collaboration with the Vancouver Centre of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, is a wonderful opportunity to hear and meet talented local artists in concert on the historic 1938 pipe organ at St James. The programme will include a première performance of Vancouver composer Denis Bédard Plein Jeu, Récit de cornet, Grand Jeu ( de la Suite du cinquième ton ), and lovely introspective music such as William Bolcom’s Jesus Loves Me (an arrangement of a classic hymn, full of fun surprises such as a swinging 9/8 meter, jazzy chromaticism), as well as virtuosic pieces such as Einar Traerup-Sark’s Toccata, Lefébure-Wély’s Sortie, and Louis Vierne’s Toccata in B-flat.
