Great Canadian Shootout started in 1997 as an ending tournament for the Spring basketball season which runs from April to June.
In the beginning, the tournament attracted between 50-80 teams. Which was the entire amount of Club teams and was the biggest tournament in Alberta. In 2023, the tournament has grown to 220 teams and attracts teams from communities in Eastern and Northern Canada.
