Mark your calendars, for something spooktacular is creeping your way! Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret’s Parade of Lost Souls returns with the theme Everything! Everywhere! All at Parade! Saturday, October 28th 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. FREE AND BY DONATIONS Inviting Halloween Enthusiasts to Unleash their Inner Artistic Souls for a Night of Spectacular Wonders The whimsical, spooktacular, and legendary Parade of Lost Souls returns on Saturday, Oct 28, casting its enchanting spell from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The beloved annual East Vancouver tradition, a blend of art, music, and dance, begins at the Britannia Library (1661 Napier Street), with new “choose-your-own-adventure” parades happening at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., where you will have to choose between three bands going in three different directions! The Parade of Little Souls for young people occurs just before 6:30 p.m. Join the Thriller Flash Mob, immerse in the mystical aura of the Witches Dance Workshop, or step back in time with Do the Time Warp. Every year, our community collaborates to create the ultimate Halloween experience with a wide range of workshops, dances, a huge variety of music, and the most fantastic costumes you can imagine. In fact, we want you to imagine something more fantastic and wear it to the parade! This is a participatory community celebration that includes YOU and is offered absolutely free, with donations encouraged.” Through a diverse array of workshops leading up to the grandeur of the Parade of Lost Souls, participants are not just attendees but become an integral part of the performance, immersing themselves in dance, music, and artistry. Every soul is invited to help turn the community into a canvas of expressive art, echoing the unison of spirits and the enigmatic whispers of Halloween. EVENT DETAILS Where: Britannia Library and area located at 1661 Napier Street When: Saturday, October 28th, 2023 6:30 p.m.: Parade of Little Souls (Family-Friendly Procession), followed by the main Parade of Lost Souls Processions at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. 10 p.m. – 1 a.m.: The Lost Souls After Party at The Wise Hall (1882 Adanac Street) Parade of Little Souls Beginning at 6:30 p.m., little souls will light up the night, illuminating the path for the grand spectacle that follows. The earlier start caters to the young and young at heart, a prelude to a night where dreams and reality dance under the moonlit sky. Parade of Lost Souls The moon will bear witness to a spectacle where each soul, each spirit, weaves a story, echoing the eternal dance of the cosmos. The choose-your-own-adventure processions commence hourly at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The Lost Souls After Party You’ve resurrected your identities, faced your fears, and saved your souls, and now it’s time to shake those bones and rejoice! As the clock strikes 10 p.m., the spirits will make their way to The Wise Hall, located at 1882 Adanac Street, soaring into the witching hours and rejoicing in the magical blend of the night. Workshops and Pre-Parade Preparations The embrace of magic is woven through workshops designed to kindle the soul’s creative spark. Dance to the enigmatic tunes of the Thriller Flash Mob, immerse in the mystical aura of the Witches Dance Workshop, or step back in time with Do the Time Warp. Join us at the studio on Fridays (Oct 6, 13, & 20) at 2050 Scotia St, entrance at loading bay. where you can do a variety of things, including: • Make a costume • Buy a costume • Contribute to set decoration preparations • Meet potential collaborators • DJ (or play music) for the folks enjoying the space • Perform karaoke on our custom LED dance floor • Get a tour of the new improvements of the space • Meet with the crew of the Parade • Talk about any ideas you may have! • Volunteer with the team Be the Spirit of the Parade Marshalled by The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret, the Parade of Lost Souls echoes the mystery of the unseen, the untold, and the unimaginable. It’s a dance of spirits, an assembly of souls, echoing the cryptic whisper of All Hallows’ Eve. Your Support Keeps the Magic Alive A magical blend of performance, music, and art; the Parade of Lost Souls thrives on the generosity of the community. With a suggested donation of $10, each soul contributes to the echoing enchantment, ensuring that the mystical dance continues year after year. “We extend our gratitude to the British Columbia Arts Council, Britannia Community Services Centre, Canadian Heritage, and The City of Vancouver. Their support and belief in the power of community-driven arts and culture have been instrumental in bringing this event to life. Together, we’re not just creating an event, but fostering a legacy of artistic expression and community collaboration,” says Single-Dain. With a strong mandate to create and present multidisciplinary interactive arts and events with a focus on community engagement and artistic excellence, The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret is a non-profit society dedicated to curating and supporting original works of physical theatre in stages both traditional and site specific. The society hosts a live band swing dance each Tuesday night throughout the year at the Dusty Flowerpot studio, called The Swing Out, a speakeasy-like hub of dancers, musicians, and anyone who loves either of those!
