At a pro-Canada rally in Calgary Thursday – where he urged Albertans to vote Canada in the upcoming Alberta referendum – Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke of the country becoming an “energy superpower” with the proposed Pacific Link pipeline in Alberta, highlighting that it would create less dependance on the United States amid a full-blown trade war. When the crowd roared in delight to this, Carney joked the audience be “careful, they might think that’s election interference” – something the U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra says American officials are “closely watching.”
