After years of symptoms, Edmonton minister Deborah Hoekstra finally learned she had CTEPH, a rare and potentially fatal form of pulmonary hypertension. The diagnosis led her to the Mazankowski Heart Institute, where a team of specialists became the first in Western Canada to perform a rare and delicate operation, allowing patients like Hoekstra to receive care close to home.
