Ron Burgundy to help cover curling in Winnipeg

TORONTO – Curling will be extra classy this weekend.

Fictional newsman Ron Burgundy will help cover the “Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings” for TSN in Winnipeg on Sunday.

Will Ferrell, who plays the legendary newsman known for the catchphrase “Stay classy,” will call live game action alongside broadcaster Vic Rauter, the sports network said.

The “Roar of the Rings” will determine which team will represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The finals take place Dec. 7 and 8.

The event manager said ticket sales have spiked following the Burgundy announcement.

“I can’t see it being a distraction,” said Rob Dewhirst. “If it is it, is a good one.”

Chelsea Carey’s rink is vying for the chance to curl in Sochi.

“This is the biggest event in curling as far as I am concerned,” said the Winnipeg skip, who is also thrilled to possibly be interviewed by Burgundy.

“I’m not sure I can keep a straight face just talking to him or standing beside him because I think he is hilarious,” Carey said.

Ferrell returns to the big screen as Burgundy in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues on Dec. 20.

In a release, he tells the Prairie city: “Winnipeg, get ready to paint the town Burgundy!

“Marked by the gods of broadcasting and placed into this shimmering green sphere like a golden egg in hay, chosen like an unclean jackal by Noah himself, I accept your hallowed task and sing out with a battle cry worthy of your love and your wisdom.”

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues follows San Diego’s top-rated newsman as he returns to the news desk alongside his co-anchor and wife Veronica Corningstone, played by Christina Applegate, weather man Brick Tamland, played by Steve Carell, and reporter Brian Fantana, played by Paul Rudd.
