Chateauguay police believe that he could be detained for a while.

“People are calling, and our investigators will get in touch with them,” Cst. Nathalie Langevin told Global News.

“We are getting many calls.”

Police said Monday that since his arrest last Wednesday, a number of Johnson’s former students have contacted detectives to say they too were sexually assaulted by the now 70-year-old.

Johnson, a former Math teacher at Howard S. Billings High School in Chateauguay, is facing five criminal charges: one count of child pornography possession and four other charges linked to assaults on one teenage boy.

The alleged crimes took place about 25 years ago, between 1987 and 1991.

Johnson’s scheduled bail hearing Monday at the Valleyfield Courthouse was postponed to Thursday.

At that time, the crown prosecutor Pierre-Oliver Gagnon said that he expects new charges to be filed in the case.

Johnson currently lives alone in a bungalow on Montcalm Street in Chateauguay.

Neighbours told Global News that as few as two weeks ago, he was offering home tutoring services to boys and girls in the neighbourhood.

Joy Pottle, who has known the suspect for years, said that she is shocked and angered by the allegations.

“My advice to him? Put your house up for sale and move,” Pottle said.

“It’s scary, it’s scary, and it’s uneasy.”

Police said that John Drake Johnson also worked as a teacher in the town of Ormstown, and was a member of the Scouts movement.
