Short, Myers among presenters at Canada’s Walk of Fame

TORONTO — Stars like Mike Myers and Martin Short are coming out Saturday in Toronto for the 2013 Canada’s Walk of Fame gala.

The show, taking place at the Elgin Theatre, is being taped for broadcast on Global and Slice on Oct. 27.

Myers and famed composer-producer David Foster are among the scheduled presenters.

Short will honour inductee Victor Garber, with whom he starred in the 1972 stage production of Godspell in Toronto.

Actress Joanna Kerns will pay tribute to her Growing Pains husband Alan Thicke; Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard will speak about Free the Children activists Craig and Marc Kielburger; rocker Alice Cooper will honour music producer Bob Ezrin; and sportscaster Brian Williams will recognize the achievements of soccer star Christine Sinclair.

The late jazz pianist Oscar Peterson will be inducted via taped message from musician Diana Krall.

Carly Rae Jepsen, who is receiving the Allan Slaight Award, will be honoured by Justin Bieber and manager Scott “Scooter” Braun by video.

Jepsen will also perform at the show, as well as Tom Cochrane and The Tenors.

Fans who line the red carpet on Saturday will be treated to performances by Dirty Radio (12:30 p.m.), Taylor Kurta (1:15 p.m.) and Karl Wolf (2:20 p.m.).

Canada’s Walk of Fame has recognized achievements of Canadians since 1998. Previous recipients include Celine Dion, Jim Carrey, Guess Who and Linda Evangelista.
