TORONTO — Rapper Kanye West is facing up to a year behind bars after he was charged Friday with battery and attempted grand theft in connection with a scrap with a paparazzo.
The 36-year-old music star was caught on video attacking photographer Danny Ramos at the Los Angeles airport on July 19 and wrestling him to the ground.

The misdemeanour charges were filed by a city prosecutor after the district attorney declined to file felony assault and attempted robbery charges against West.
A judge in L.A. County Superior Court will hear the case on Oct. 10.
Ramos has already filed a civil lawsuit against West seeking compensation for assault, battery, negligence and violation of his civil rights. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
