EDMONTON – The family of Valentine Degenhardt, who was reported missing on July 19th, has established a special reward fund to encourage anyone with information on the case to come forward.
“We’re terrified,” said Val’s wife Robyn Schmitke-Degenhardt. “We’ve thought the worst. We’re hoping for the best,” she added, her voice cracking.
Val Degenhardt is described as a 45-year-old Caucasion male with green eyes, brown and grey hair, and a grey goatie. He was last seen on July 17th at about 5:30 p.m. in Barrhead driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the license plate number BJS 0889.
His family says his disappearance is out of character. The RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating the disappearance.
The Degenhardt family set up the reward fund along with Crime Stoppers to offer a reward exceeding what is traditionally offered. To qualify for the special reward, people have to speak directly to investigators and be willing to go to court.
“We miss him, and more than anything, we all want Val returned to us,” said Val’s brother, Tim Degenhardt. “We hope this reward will generate more tips, and ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.”
Video from security cameras at the Barrhead gas station where Degenhardt was last seen are available on the Alberta Missing Persons website.
“He has several tattoos, he has tattoos on both biceps, and a matching tattoo like mine right here, this is our wedding tattoo,” explained Schmitke-Degenhardt.
“He has tattoos on both inner sides of his legs, and he just had his hair shaved recently, and he has a goatee that’s white.”
