SASKATOON – A man who is accused of killing a conservation officer while driving drunk has now been charged with manslaughter.

The crown laid the new charge against Blaine Thomas Taypotat on Thursday in provincial court.

Taypotat, 35, was arrested in late May after allegedly speeding away from RCMP on Highway 11 before striking and killing a Saskatchewan conservation officer.

Justin Knackstedt, 23, had stopped to help direct traffic after a crash further south on the highway.

Taypotat is also charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, criminal negligence and flight from a peace officer all causing death.
