The man jumped into the water in an effort to push his girlfriend back to shore, but was unsuccessful getting back into his own boat when he was finished.

Witnesses and emergency workers scoured the lake looking for the Calgarian.

The man was found approximately twenty minutes later.

He was rushed to hospital in Red Deer, but later he died of his injuries.

His name has not been released.
