TORONTO — Canadian rap star Drake has confessed making music is more important than making love.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m so focused on training my body and getting my mind right to create this album that sex isn’t one of my main priorities,” Drake told GQ. “If someone is around that I know and trust, I’m down. But I’m not going to end up with some stranger at this party.”

Drake, who was born Aubrey Graham in Toronto (and keeps a condo in the city), appears on the cover of the new issue of GQ, out on newsstands June 25.

In an interview with Michael Paterniti, the 26-year-old former Degrassi star said he recently heard some wise words about love from Will Smith.

“He said something profound. He said love is when you become one and you need that person,” Drake said. “It’s not about wanting anymore, you need that person. Hearing that, I don’t know if I’ve ever felt that way.”

Drake also said he’d love some peace with singer Chris Brown, with whom he has had some very public spats — mostly over their mutual interest in Rihanna.

“I wish we could sit down and talk it out man-to-man. But that’s not going to happen,” he told GQ. “It’s embarrassing, the amount of media coverage. Two rappers fighting over the woman. He’s not even a rapper, but still, it’s the last way you want your name out there. It distracts from the music. But he’s made me the enemy, and that’s the way it’s gonna stay, I guess.”

Drake said he worries their feud “could end really badly.”

Asked about critics like Ludacris, DMX and Lil’ Kim, Drake pointed out they take shots at him but “they don’t criticize the music itself.”

According to GQ, Drake’s $7.7 million California home features a game room, mechanical bull, movie theatre, gym and a master bedroom equipped with a Jacuzzi.

Drake opened up about his Toronto upbringing, revealing that his single mother — suffering health issues including osteoporosis and joint pain — rented a modest home in an upscale neighbourhood to keep him out of trouble. He earned $40,000 a year playing Jimmy on Degrassi and fell in love with material things.

Drake kicks off a tour of the U.S. and Canada in September and will release his third studio album, Nothing Was the Same, later this year.
