CALGARY – Police have laid charges after an officer-involved shooting at a busy northwest shopping centre, earlier this month.

Two innocent bystanders were hit by an SUV in the 100 block of Crowfoot Way N.W. on May 14th, when the driver tried to speed away from police.

Officers had attempted to approach the driver, who was parked in front of a bank, but he raced off as police walked towards his vehicle, hopping the sidewalk and striking two elderly pedestrians.

It was at that point that police shot at the vehicle trying to stop it, hitting the driver in the process. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been released.

The woman in her 70’s who was hit by the vehicle suffered serious injuries, while the man in his 70’s who was hit had only minor injuries.
