Fire at vacant Upper James home causes more than $100K in damage

Hamilton police are no longer calling a morning house fire suspicious.

Eleven fire units responded to a blaze at an abandoned home on Upper James near Brucedale.

The large, white, two-storey home with blacked out windows went up in flames at around 2:30 this morning.

Police believe the fire was started when trash outside the home was set on fire causing $100,000 damage to the home and $5,000 in damage to the small apartment building next door.

It was initially deemed suspicious, but police now say the fire marshall will not be called in.

No one was injured.
