A scam claiming to be part of the CKNW Orphans’ Fund is circulating around churches in the U.S.

Ryan Cramer, a pastor with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Foley, Alabama received an e-mail the afternoon of Sep. 6.

“It said that they wanted to send people into orphanages to give gifts to children.”

The email offers to pay a person $300 a week, plus $50 in gas.

“Then when I looked at your guys’ website, which he actually had a link in the email to your website, it said that you guys are from British Columbia and it didn’t say that you have any local branches in America.”

CKNW does not work with orphanages inside or outside of Canada.

Better Business Bureau Spokesperson Evan Kelly says it’s likely an employment scam.

“They are going to get you to download a link or forward you some sort of get started money in the form of a cheque that they are going to get you to deposit and the cheque of course is going to bounce.”

CKNW would like the public to know the Orphans’ Fund is not currently seeking employees in any capacity.
