2 people killed in Fort McMurray collision, charges pending against driver

An investigation is underway in Fort McMurray after a collision claimed the lives of two pedestrians Wednesday night in the northern Alberta city.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said a vehicle hit a 52-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man on Real Martin Drive at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Both of the pedestrians died shortly after the collision, RCMP said.

Police said the identity of the victims won’t be released, but RCMP did say they were Fort McMurray residents.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and charges are pending against the 48-year-old man, RCMP said. His name hasn’t been released.

RCMP remained at the scene Thursday morning investigating the cause of the fatal collision.
