A 25-year-old Brampton man is facing charges after Peel Regional Police say an OPP officer was struck and dragged by a car during a traffic stop in central Mississauga.
Police and paramedics were called to Hurontario Street over Highway 403 at around 9 a.m. Monday.
Peel police Const. Bally Saini said the officer was conducting a routine traffic stop.
“The officer had stopped the vehicle on Hurontario and as a result of that, he was dragged from the traffic stop and the vehicle fled from there,” she said, adding the car was last seen going northbound.

The four-year constable, who was identified as Patrick Chatelain, was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in serious but stable condition. His condition was later upgraded to non-life-threatening and was subsequently released from hospital.
Peel police said earlier they were looking for a newer model, charcoal grey Chrysler 300C vehicle with the Quebec licence plate and that four people were in the car.
A spokesperson said officers received an anonymous tip about the car before 1 p.m. He said officers were called to an apartment building parking lot near Hurontario Street and Trailwood Drive, north of Eglinton Avenue East and more than a kilometre away from where the traffic stop occurred. The car was found abandoned and officers later seized it for forensic examination.
Peel police announced Monday evening that an unidentified man was arrested at around 6:45 p.m. Police charged Ian Anthony Green with obstructing a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing injury, criminal negligence and failing to remain at the scene.
Outside of a Brampton court Tuesday, Green’s mother didn’t comment on the charges but said he is innocent.
“There is a video. He’s home, he’s under house arrest for 8 p.m. and he’s been home … there’s a video, he was at home, taken from home at 9:40 a.m.,” she said.
Meanwhile, Peel Regional Paramedic Services Chief Peter Dundas said in a tweet Monday that Chatelain also serves as a paramedic.
“Thoughts with PC Chatelain for a strong recovery,” Dundas wrote. “Stay strong.”
According to the Region of Peel, Chatelain also served in the Canadian Forces.
